Lilac – Ally Ameel

I had fallen asleep with tangled strands of hair

hair that I hadn’t cut in a while

for it was june

you see

a month with no room for scissors and sharp things

I had been lulled to sleep

by those melodies

drunk

from soft skinned

ears

that in their crevices

held wax and honeyed secrets

and wishes

that often leaked out

when I tipped my head

too far to the right

and my heart danced

something between the lines of

a ballet

and contemporary love

and it smelled of lavender
